How to Start a Pest Control Business In Alabama
Various types of training, licenses, permits, and certificates are required under the State of Alabama for individuals who wish to work in the pest control field. Individuals seeking certification can visit the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industry (ADAI) for exam times and locations throughout the state.
Alabama Pesticide Applicator License Types
A Structural Professional Services Permits is required for a business to engage in and solicit for Household, institutional & industrial Pest Control, Fumigation Pest Control (FC), and Control or Eradication of Wood Destroying organisms (WDC).
Besides, a certified operator who has taken, passed and submitted their Commercial Applicators Permit Application with appropriate fees for the corresponding category is required to receive a Structural Professional Service Permit.
Annual Structural professional services permit prices:
- Main Office-$175.00
- Branch Office- $75.00
- Sub Office-$50.00
*Additional certifications are $100.00 for each category of work*
Alabama Applicator Certification
COMMERCIAL APPLICATOR
The sale and application of certain types of pesticides are restricted by law due to harmful effects; it can cause people and the environment if these pesticides are improperly used.
Pesticides classified as “restricted-use” may be applied only by or under the supervision of applicators certified by the Bureau and are adequately trained in the correct category. Applicators must attend multiple training sessions and pass a written examination before they qualified to supervise the use of these pesticides.

PRIVATE APPLICATOR
Private applicators are producers of agricultural goods (farmers).

- Alabama has developed reciprocal agreements with eight (8) other states to allow applicators certified in those states to obtain an Alabama permit without being tested. Those states are:
- Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
- All other states must contact the Department of Ag for further information.
